After "The Good Life" Penelope went to work in a play called "The Donkey's Years". Paul later joined the play after
the head man quit and was cast with penelope where patrons referred to them as "Jerry and Margo".
Paul still has red patches but is doing well in spite of everything.
Paul went on to do an Ackbourn play called "Ten Times Table" and was still doing it when the producer of "The
Good Life asked Paul to look over a script for a new sitcom called "Yes, Minister". Paul fancied the role of
Humphrey because it seemed he always had the last word but was encouraged into the role of Jim Hacker because the
part could be developed to which Paul agreed. The show was delayed for almost a year due to the political turmoil
at the time. Toward the end of the year, 6 episodes were shot off and at the first showing there were estimated to only
be 2,000,000 viewers which in TV land is quite disappointing. Then the show took off like a "Good Life' juggarnaught
and ended up shown in 50 countries. Not bad for a show that mixed politics with humor considering politics being so
volitle.
Paul's health problems increase. The doctors found Paul to be suffering from the radiation treatments along with a
lingering case of TB. Paul is advised to quit taking the pain pills and he so does with good results as his depression
moods are lifted.
Paul starts working in voice-overs in which Penelope Keith helps to get him plugged into the field. Paul also works
with Richard Briers doing the same thing.
.
Paul does another sitcom called "Let There Be Love". It's about a bachelor and his funny friend, (funny, ha ha) and
a beautiful girl. It's a light hearted romantic comedy.
Paul went to do "Noises Off" a popular play that lasted three years. The Savoy had to be rented to acommodate
the crowds. While he was still doing this he did the "Yes, Minister" sequel "Yes, Prime Minister". They were filming
a show at a hotel about a terrorist threat on Jim Hacker and Jim was trying to work a second honeymoon around
the secret service agents. The funny thing about it was the SAS was having a covention in the same hotel and there
were real secret service haging about mixed in with the movie extras.
Paul started touring abroad starting with Austrailia to meet Prime Minister Fraiser. It appears Paul's Yes, Minister
roles are being taken somewhat literally.
After 17 years in north London, the Eddingtons move near the beach in a warehouse with a balcony. Cool.
Paul at this time takes on "Fourty Years On" again. By now he's about past it.
The only Tom Stoppard play Paul did was "Jumpers". He played with Felicity (in the play). He went to Africa to
study the complicated lines and got sunburned on the legs real bad.
Paul gets the royal treatment in Denmark. Awards include a hearty laurel wreath the size of himself.
Penelope helps out again and getsPaul in a biscuit commercial. Paul takes singing lessons and goes back to Austalia
for PR speeches. Back at England Paul is awarded the CBE and makes the Honors list.
While in Austalia, Paul sees a doctor about his skin problem where he is told he has skin cancer. A doctor in Sydney
says he has a heart problem. Paul takes ultra-violet treatments and looses his hair. Wears hats.
Back in England Paul stars and directs in "The Browning Version". He goes on to play "London Assurance" with
Angela Thorne. Angela played "George" on the Good Life show titled "Our Speaker Today". She also was "Marjorie"
on "To The Manor Born" opposite Penelope's "Audrey Fforbes Hamilton".
Paul gets to do a "Grey Poupon" commercial (But of course!) but has the medical insurance raised on him when found
to have Diabetes by a doctor in New Zealand, the location of the commercial.
Paul gets to do a play with his son Domonic building the set and his daughter Gemma directing a play in Ipswitch called
"Double Dealer".
Paul was in a hotel in Belfast when a loud explosion in the building went off. Someone had planted a bomb in a closet
near Paul's door. Thank God only the detonator had gone off and not the bomb. The previous evening, some fellow
had complemented Paul's performance who roused suspicion by inquiring about Paul's whereabouts and whenabouts.
A journalist from the "Irish Times" informed Paul that the bomb had been in fact, for him. Being of a cautious nature,
Paul refuses the gift. Paul frequently joked about someone trying to assassinate him due to his "Prime Ministr" role
for which Trisha thought off color at best. After this incident Paul tended to agree.
Paul plays one -legged child molester in the Camomile Lawn again with Felicity Kendal. The show is a miniseries,
He acts the role of a one-legged child molester, and Felicity is in the show. Got it? Good!
